[Situation] On the west side of Lothian Road. A large and handsome building three stories high and in good repair. It was founded in 1825. This academy is for the purpose of affording education to pupils destined to serve in the Army or Navy or East India Company's Service. The supporters of the establishment consist of Shareholders Donors and annual Contributors. In it is taught all the branches of education necessary to fit a gentleman for the military profession. Part of the building is appriated as a Riding School Mr. Scott of Brae House has the management of the Riding School & is a separate department of the Institution & is called the Royal Riding Academy. |
