Lord Advocate for Scotland. for the last half century it has fallen into ruins and is now the property of the Duke of Buccleugh

It formerly was called Kingston, and Royston, which latter signifies the same and lastly Caroline Park, from Queen Caroline, it is unoccupied at present and is the property of the Duke of Buccleuch

OS1/11/4/28 GRANTON PIER Granton Pier W. Hamilton, Broom Par [Park] Rev. [Reverend] W. Colvin, Cramond 002 This name applies to an excellent and well constructed pier running into the sea for the distance of 1500 ft [feet] by 17 in breadth, it was commenced in 1835 and finished in 1845 by the Duke of Buccleuch at the coast of £140,000 by request of the Steamboat proprietors - it is well furnished with sheds or warehouses, a lighthouse etc and the harbour [harbour] well protected on the west by a well constructed breakwater which is almost finished. The stone was brought from Granton Quarry about 1 mile west, by means of a Railway. On the pier is a Railway station in Connection with the Edinburgh and Northern Line which is a neat Brick building; from this station, see above * * railway trains are conveyed across the Firth of Forth by a powerful steam boat. I may here remark that the pier together with the village is well lit with gas, from the Leith Company

Todd, Muirhouse Mains 002 The ruins of an old Castle occupying a site on a rocky eminence close to the sea shore, and by all appearance seems to have been erected in a style in order to resist aggressive parties, it has a castellated wall about 20ft [feet] high on the west and south side through which are two principal entrances. The house is about 3 storeys high with small windows numerous swivel holes and walls of considerable thickness This place seems by the style of Architecture to have been erected soon after the English invasion of 1544 (see Woods History of Cramond) and was the residence and property of Sir Thomas Hope in 1619, hi Majesty's advocate for Scotland. This great lawyer made Granton his principal residence, particularly during the struggle between Charles 1st and the Covenanters it has been in ruins for the last half century, and is the property of his Grace the Duke of Buccleuch
