[South] of Corstorphine - is the Parish Church & This building is of great antiquity and seems to have been erected in the 15th century by Sir John Forrester, adjoining which was a collegiate church erected by the same individual which was wholly destroyed or remodeled So as to form a portion of the present edifice. In it are some ancient shrines Situated in the wall consisting of Statues representing a Night in Armour & a Lady bearing escutcheons no doubt of the Forrester Family. It is surmounted by a Small Steeple of a conical Shape. the roof of this building is flagged except the Northern wing which was remodeled in 1851. it contains 522 Free sittings The building was formerly dedicated to St. John. The stipend is about £184.0.0 per Annum. |
