001 A standing stone of granite about 9 feet above the surface of the earth, it stands in an arable field on th efarm of Brigs & south bank of "Almond Water". tradition states & modern history supposes that it commemorates either a battle fought between the forcs of Malcolm 2 commanded by his natural brother Kenneth, and those of the usurper Constantine, or the spot where the latter was killed. the scene of conflict is generally supposed to have been about 2 miles west of this place, at the present Hamlet of Newbridge.
