027.07 | A middle sized hill at the east extremity of the parish and stands at an elevation of about 1600 feet above the level of the sea & about 700 above the surrounding ground. It is thickly covered with heath & no depth of soil as the igneous rock of which it is principally composed crops out here & there. It forms a conspicuous object in the surrounding country owing to its black appearance hence its name. The boundary between the parishes of Walston and Dolphinton pass over the top of it. Sir Norman Lochart & William Allan Woddrop Esqr[Esquire] of Garveld are the proprietors in Wlaston Parish |
