027.02 A large and important stream which rises in the Co.[County] of Edinburgh, and after a very long and circuitous course unites itself with the North Medwin. the joint waters of the two streams after a short but exceedingly crooked course falling into the River Clyde. The portion of this stream belonging to the Parish of Walston has originally been very crooked, and when flooded, inundated a considerable area of valuable land, but in 1829 an artificial and more direct channel was cut for it, leaving the land which it formerly overflowed open for improvement, This stream in its course through the Co.[County] of Lanark forms portions of the boundaries of the following parishes, viz.
