A British camp, on the summit of Castle Hill, of the usual circular form. It is composed of one rampart in a very good state of preservation, but no ditch. A number of stones within the rampart, having mortar or cement adhering to them, favors the supposition of a castle having stood there at some remote period; the camp is now planted with fir.
"There are the remains of an ancient camp of a circular form on the top of an eminence a quarter of a mile south of the village called Castle hill, containing nearly half an acre. Some say that it was the site of a castle of which nothing now remains." Stat.[Statistical Acct.[Account]. |

A ruin situated high up on Tinto, it forms a small quadrangle, the walls are about 5 ft high and 5ft thick. Date of erection not known; name derived from an indecent frolic of the builder.
" On Tinto, a little above the base on the south east side , there are the remains of an ancient castle called Fatlips; a piece of the wall , about two yards high , is still standing; its thickness is fully six feet and it adheres so firmly that persons building a stone fence lately chos erather to quarry stone than take them from the wall."
