018.14 This is now used as a farm steading, but was anciently the seat of the Hamiltons of Raploch - the ancestors of the present proprietor. The house forming the offices are modern. The old house stands north of the offices and bears on its north side, above an old doorway, the arms of the Hamiltons, cut on stone and built into the wall. A small projecting portion of the building, on the south side of the house, corners a winding stone-staircase leading to the upper story. From this staircase to the east end of the house, the walls are from 3 to 5 feet thick, having an arched roof to the lower room, or kitchen, and a stone floor to the room above it. The other portion of the house (the west) is not so strong by built, but appears to be very old, having
