024.09 "Under the head of antiquities, in this parish, may be mentioned the remains of two old castles still visible on the banks of the Avon: known by the names of the Coat or Cat Castle, and Ringsdale Castle, both built on precipitous rocks overhanging the river, but excepting their names and ruins, nothing more remains of them, as history and tradition are entirely silent concerning them".

Upon the authority of the farmer of "Cot Castle", farm, who seems to be the only person that can point out the site, this Castle ("Cot Castle") stood on an artificial mound about a chain's distance north of the farm house, at the place marked (+). He found, about 20 years ago, a dry (put together without mortar) foundation wall of stone, 7 feet thick, on the south east
