024.06 A village (small town) about the centre of the parish, having its streets regularly numbered and named, and lighted by gas from a gas works in the south of it. There are three churches here - The Ph. Church, a free church, and U. P. Church. There are also three schools - Ph. School, Free C. School, and a subscription School. The Inns are the Black bBull, opposite "The Cross", in "Kings Street" and the "Bucks Head" in "New Street". The post office at "The Cross" and there are several Smithies throughout the town.
Two wells in Stonehouse, bear names - the "Loch Well" near the "Free Church" and "Townend Well" off "Lockart Street". Three Fairs are held at "The Cross", during the year. Some of the streets in Stonehouse are at present being Comen Ticketed, It is not a market town.
