007.13 A village near the south eastern boundary of the parish on the High Road from Glasgow to Edinburgh. This name properly applies from "Shettleston Sheddings" to the east end of "Eastmuir", including those localities, or divisions, called "Middlequarter"& "Eastmuir". The name of Shettleston is much confused with others within it, which form the principal part of the village. "Eastmuir" forms the eastern extremity of it, & comprises all the houses between the Parish Church & Crownhall. The name "Eastmuir" is taken from the houses being built on a muir which was there 25 years ago, & at that time, called the east muir of Shettleston from the village having a muir at the east & west extemities. Before the Parliamentary Boundary of Glasgow was extended, the Westmuir- now a villageof that name within the Parliamentary Boundary was part of Shettleston. "Middlequarter"is so called from being in the centre of the village & it is applied by the best authorities, to all the houses on the lands originally belongng to the farmsteading, i.e. between "Green" & the Parish Church. "Eastmuir" & Middlequarter" are so distinct as names & localities within the village, that it is difficult to shew where the name "Shettleston" (Turn over)
