026.10 | A place on the River Clyde at which a Float is employed to convey carts, cattle etc across. It is worked by a patent chain cable, a dwelling house is attached to it which is situated in the adjacent Ph. [Parish]; before the Float was placed on the River, the Ford, which was at the same spot, was known as "Long Ford". This name is now disused, the ferry receiving its name from the adjacent farm of Lampits. A small toll is exacted from parties employing the Float. It is the property of a company, the Secretary of which is Robert Denholm Esqr. [Esquire] Factor. |
