Statistical Account
026; 033 The portion of the River Clyde in this Ph. [Parish] bounds it on the N. [North] and N.E. [North East] from its junction with Covington Ph. [Parish], to that of Carmichael, its banks are very low, is extremely crooked & deep, and owing to the land on either side lying low & flat, it very frequently inundates it, leaving the, then, appearance of a vast Lock, the Pasture lands receive a great benefit from these inundations, but the crops are not infrequently spoiled by them. There is from 6 to 7 miles of the River in this Parish.
