001.14 A new line of railway branching off the Edinburgh & Glasgow at Cowlairs. It was passed in 1855 & is expected to be complete in May 1858. Ir runs about 5 miles through thos Ph. [Parish] & is only part complete. At Cambus Possil it has altered the course of the Forth & Clyde Canal for a short distance. It passes out of the parish by a very fine bridge over the River Kelvin. It joins the Caledonian & Dumbartonshire Railway at Bowling & runs along it as far as Dumbarton. From Dumbarton to Helensburgh is intended to be single rails.
