The West Port as the term implies was the Western Gate which led from the Town and some of the oldest inhabitants still remember its vestiges.
History of Lanark 1834.
There are no remains of this gate in existence at present, but the place where it stood is still pointed out.

The houses in this street are 2 and 3 storeys slated and in good repair - it is lit with Gas.

Checked the History of Lanark by W Davidson and got the word "Quarter". My they have certainly altered the quote for their own needs!

Emailed to get the third entry Lanark House added so I can do it. JD 22/10/2013
Feb 12 - added it but the word 'not' should be underlined as in "it is not the Parish Manse"
