025.15 This street "connects High Street and West Port but how to account for its name is puzzling. It is quite contiguous to the ancient monastery, and may originally have been so called from some circumstances connected with that monkish establishment in ruder ages" - History of Lanark.
It contains several good houses and shops, all 2, 3 and a few 4 storeys, is well lit with gas but the formation of its line of street is very irregular.
