043 A small burn rising on the North side of Hawkwood Hill and falling into Wandell Burn near Birnock. Mr Paton states that it is generally supposed that this Parish was a favourite hunting place of one of the early Scottish Kings who Built the Bower of Wandell; and that this is the origin of such names ad Deer Gill, Hartside etc, etc. names derived from the chase.
