018.10 This Burn rises in the South west of the Parish, at "Burnhead Quarry" (xvii-15-Trace 1), & is not known by any name until it enters the High Parks of Hamilton, through which, it bears the well known name "Meikle Burn" [in margin - See N. Sheets of xvii-8-Trace 4]. From the point where it passes out of the High Parks (the wall enclosing the policies, xvii-4 Trace 6) 'till it enters the Avon (Trace 4. xviii-1) it is well known by the name "Covan Burn", which is supposed to be a corruption of convent from a Convent said to have been about here in former times. No accounts that have been seen or the best & oldest authorities in the neighborhood could point out the site of such a building.
