Lanarkshire -- Hamilton Parish

Caledonian Forest Old Oaks (Continued) - would be recognised, but both are used generally. The last two authorities, Messrs. Hamilton & Henderson, give the name "Old Oaks" only, believing that from them being in rows* at some places, there is no right to the name "Caledonian Forest". They are commonly called Cal:[Caledonian] Forest by the Keepers, etc. employed in the "High Parks", but all persons, with the two exceptions above, couple, or are at a loss as to which should be used, when questioned. All authorities of any value have been applied to. The parks or fields south of the "Old Oaks" are called the "Chases".

*There is no appearance of regularity in the position of these trees at any place. Their appearance is natural. (See the other side stating that some were planted in 1140 by King David.)
