017.06 | A large reservoir in a natural hollow between the Farm of "Haigh Muirhouses" & "Wellbrae". It is partly supplied by "Earnock Burn" which enters by sluices on the west side & passes along the northern, & part of the eastern, side of the Reservoir. There are several small Tanks, on the east of the reservoir, used for filtering the water with sand, before it is carried away to the Town through the pipes. There is a Platform or Gangway, near the Filtering Tanks, which goes into the reservoir for about 140 Links. It is supported by wooden pillars. The Water Works are regulated by commissioners part of whom belong to the Town Council of the Burgh of Hamilton & are annual appointed. The Works have been two years in use. |
