From Acts of Parliament published by command of his Majesty, we have that the name of this Parish was changed from Cadzow to Hamilton, by virtue of a charter granted by James II of Scotland, to James, first Lord Hamilton. The Parish of Hamilton is situated in the middle ward of Lanarkshire (of which the town of Hamilton is the capital.) From Maidenlees in the south to Bothwell Bridge in the north, it is six miles in length, & from Rotten Burn, where it meets with the Parish of Blantyre, on the west, to the banks of the Clyde opposite Carbarns, where
