011.16 | "Near the Moat HIll is an Ancient stone cross about 4 feet high, bearing no inscription. It is said to have been the Cross of the Netheron." New Statl. [Statistical] Account. "A curious Stone cross with wavy mystical inscriptions, and an old Carved Gateway, yet exist in the Palace Parks - sole relics of the Netherton." Browns Hamilton D[irectory]. The Houses of the village of Netherton are said to have stood as late as 1790. No traces of any buildings now exist. The ground around the cross is ornamental or Pasture. Some large fruit trees which belonged to Netherton are near the Cross. |
