016.03 | Mr. Ure in his History of Rutherglen and Kilbride says, " The Peel which stands on the south bank of Kittoch, is justly entitled to a place among the ancient buildings of Kilbride. The most considerable part of the present edifice was built near two centuries ago, since that time, it has received some additions which contribute greatly to the beauty of the place." This building is now known by the names " The Peel" and "Peel Castle", the former means a place of the Strength and seems to be an ancient name. It is in good repair, occupied by James Strang Esqr. and the property of the Misses Muir Liverpool. |
