long custom, or that at one time been kept in repair by the parish, but are now neglected, and therefore are public.
The principal antiquities in the parish, are the parish church and Auldton. A tumulus has been identified at Dalpatrick and the site of a chapel shown near Larkhall.
The Duke of Hamilton, Captain McNeil Hamilton, of Raploch, and James Campbell Hamilton Esqr, of Dalserf House, are the chief proprietors in this parish. There are threelines of turnpike road through the parish - the Edinburgh and Ayr the Glasgow and Carluke, and the Glasgow and Lanark. The Lesmahagow Ry runs through.
