List of names as written Various modes of spelling Authorities for spelling Situation Description remarks
CAMP [N of Cow Castle] 040.06 The large camp at the south-west end of the hill is in a good state of preeservation and the ramparts and ditches can be distinctly traced, on the ground, the formation is irregular but appears to have been formidable as a place for defence and securuty, being defended by three distinct ramparts, which extend over the summit of the hill, and can be easily traced, except for a short distance on the West side, where the outer rampart has been destroyed by the farmer when searching for stones to build fences.
The small camp on the North end of the hill appears to have had one rampart only, but the ground around the campo has been ploughed, the rampart is very prominent and easily traced on the ground except for a short distance on the North end where it has been destroyed.
