040.10 According to the statements of the authorities quoted, there formerly stood at this place a circular building which was used for the sequestration of cattle belonging to any person who fell in arrears with rent, Mr Sim says that this was a beig[?] ancient custom and peculiar to certain parts of Scotland only; hwhen a person fell in arrears, notice was given to him for to pay by a certain date specified; if this notice was not responded to, his cattle etc were siezed and put in the 'Pound', and a certain number of days were again allowed, for the debtor to find monsy, or security, if he did not his cattle were restored
