039.08 A name which applies to a track of ground ( on the farm of Nether Hangingshaw0 extending from the boundary at the East side of White Hill in Lamington Parish to the road leading to the house of Nether Hangingshaw. There is a Camp on the West end of White Hill and Mr Sim a local antiquary thinks the word Caer is derived from this.
'Caer and Car are derived from the British caer or the Gaelic Cathair, which is pronounced Cair; signifying a wall, or mound for defence, a fortified place'
