046.04 A small stream which rises in the North side of Drake Law and flows in a northern direction towards Duneaton Water it is so called from its having ran through a large garden which was situated in the opposite side of the Road from the Lodge but which now is an arable field.

046.04 A old Mansion house built in 1668 by a descendant of the Earl of Selkirk who was a branch of the Ducal house of Hamilton it remained in the hands of the Hamiltons of Gilkerscleugh till "towards the end of the last century when they were purchased from th Earl's descendant by Sir George Colebrooke" in the hands of which family it still remains. it is 2 storeys slated and has somewhat of a castellated appearance having a small tower with a spiral stair there are outhouses and small gardens attached but both Dwelling house and grounds are in great want of improvement. there are some fine trees near the house.
