026.09 | A large Norman Gothic Mansion __ modern the seat of Robert Monteith Esq. A battlement top is carried round the entire building and at irregular intervals high august towers, pierced with long loophole windows rise from the base above the battlement. A fine bow window projects from various parts of the mansion; it is divided into five lights by slender mullions, adorned with the trefoil and fleur de lis, A high square tower rises to a considerable altitude from the centre of the building; and from the base of the tower projects northward a light elegant porch. The approach and Grounds of Carstairs House are unusually fine. |
