018.03 A Police Burgh for sanitary purposes comprising several streets the principle of which is Main Street and Stewarton Street extending from the n-west end of Main Street to the south east end of Stewarton Street for about 70 chains. There are three churches a public school two branch banks and extensive distillery in this place. Owing to the extensive coal and iron works in the neighbourhood, Wishaw is improving in the number of its houses and extent of town or village.
This is not a market town.
