011.11 | A bridge over the River Clyde at Blantyre Works suspended by chains fastened at both sides of the River to Stone buttresses at the extremities. There are also two iron pillars under it, on both sides of the River, standing on stone buttresses about 12 links from the edge of the Water. It is only for Foot Passengers from whom with the exception of those employed in “Blantyre Works”, a charge of ½d [penny] is exacted. There is a Thoroughfare through “Blantyre Works”, from the Railway Station, to the Bridge, which is allowed by the Proprietor & the Co: [Company], for the benefit of the Public. No Right of Way can be claimed, either through the works in this Parish, or the road to the Bridge, from the Bothwell Parish Road, on the opposite side of the River. Both thoroughafares are on the property of R. Monteith by whom, along with H. Monteith & Co: [Company], the Bridge was put up. |
