011.11 This name applies to all the Manufactories & dwelling houses between the River Clyde & the polices of "Blantyre Lodge". The Post Office on Trace 4 is the extent Southwards. There is a gate at the P. O. [Post Office] which might be closed against the Public at any time. It is allowed as a Public Road from here to the "Suspension Bridge" over the Clyde, erected by the Co: [Company] & the proprietor. Within the works there is a population of 1200. The works consist of a "Dye Works", "Powerloom Weaving Factory", "Cotton Mill", & a "Madder Mill", together with a Shop for Mechanics. There is a School Patronised by the Co: [Company] to whom it belongs. Towards the Southern extent of the Works there is a "Burying Ground" used during the last Cholera. The whole of the Works belong to R. Monteith Esqr: Wrought by H. Monteith & Co: [Company]
