ST OSWALD'S WELL | St Oswalds'well St Oswalds'well St Oswalds'well |
Reverend Mr Red Rae Strathaven William Hamilton Strutherhead John Cochran West Struther |
030.04 | This is very commonly called St Oswan's well which seems to be corruption of St Oswald's well. It is a delightful spring none equal to it in the parish a considerable stream of very pure water flows from it. It is situated near a small farm house called Chapel. It takes its name from a British saint of the seventh century to whom it and a chapel which once stood near were dedicated. The site of the chapel is not now known. It was dependent on the priory of Lesmahagow. Chartulary of the Abbey of Kelso. |
