Larg. appertaining to McKie of larg a very ancient name & family in this county. simsons disc. of galloway 1684.half a mile from herons house eastward stands "ruins of the old seat of the McKies of larg one of the 3 families of cumlodden founded by king Robert Bruce" nichns. galloway vol 20 p 165.
the portion now called larg tower is only part of the old building, a corner or angle about 20 feet high. it is the ruins of a castle certainly and from the space of ground, that rubbish appears to be covering an extensive one . signed george campbell.
