OLD MILITARY ROAD Old Military Road J Reddick [Howgate Street] 027 This is part of the old Military Road which was formerly leading from Portpatrick to Dumfries Constructed at the public expence & by the aid of military men about the year 1764. This line of road had been much altered & improved in its direction so as to avoid the heights & Shorten the distance. The new line of road was opened in September 1807 & tolls have been established for its Support throughout.
