027 A Tomb stone with Iron palisading round it, it is situated in a small wood on the north side of the Irongray road and about 200 yards East of Hallhill farm house their is writen on the stone. Hear lies Edward Gordon and Alaxander McCubine Martyrs, hanged wihtout Law, By Lagg and Capt [Captain] Bruce for adhering to the word of God Christs kingly government in his house and the Covenanted work of reformation, against tyranny perjury and [prelacy] Revelations 12 V. [Verse] 11. March 3rd 1685.
At Lagg and bloodie Bruce command
we were hung up by hellish hand
and thus thir furious rage to stay
we did near Kirk of Irongray,
here now in peace sweet rest, we take -
once murder'd [murdered] for religion's sake
