A small river taken its rise from the lands in the neighbourhood of Minnihive and at the junction of three small riverlets caled the Dalwhat, Castlephairn and Craigdarroch, it runs in a Westerly direction to its influx with the River Nith about one mile above Dumfries. At the North side of the parish of Kirkpatrick Irongray it is joined by the Old, it then takes the name of the Cluden See Stat Acct, [Statistical Account] 1845 page 267
