011 | The remains of An old encampment on the farm of Craigmuie it encloses an area of about 3 Chains Square, on the East South and North it is Surrounded by two ramparts of earth with a fosse between, & the outer rampart on the mid length of the east side is for about the length of a chain quite moulder'd away, on the west side the ramparts are swept away by the action of a small stream which Winds its Course by it in a northerly direction, it appears to have been at one time of the shape of an irregular Square with the corners rounded off William Scott Esqr. the proprietor of the ground on which it is Situated Say that of its origin nothing is locally known save that from its shape and appearance it is supposed to be the work of the Roman Armies at or during the period of their invasion of this part of Scotland. |
