002 An old track of road traditionally handed down to have been made and traversed by the Romans, who invaded North Britain in or about the middle of the 2nd Century Its course through the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright is in a N. [North] Westerly direction through the North part of the Parishes of Dalry and Carsphairn. It enters the former from Dumfriesshire, and farms of Altry and Carlae, where it is very indistinct, it then crosses the Water of Ken into the latter Parish and farm of Nether Holm of Dalquhairn, but does not appear visible until it gets to Bawnhead, where it becomes a well defined track varying from 10 to 15 feet in breadth, as far as Polwhat Rig at the North end of which it again becomes invisible, until you arrive at the head of Pochriegavin in Ayrshire where it is again seen quite distinct,
