016 The remains of an old Castle, standing upon an islet near the centre of Lochinvar Loch, which gives the Castle its name, it is said to have belonged to the Gordon's anciently "Knights' of Lochinvar, & more recently "Viscounts Kenmure" and "Lords of Lochinvar, - it is in the form of a parallelogram, with the remains of what seem, apartment walls at the north & south ends. it is said to have been approached by a stone causeway, which is Yet visible leaving the western Side of the Loch, & which after long droughts, in the summer season, is fordable to the Castle. I have not been able to ascertain the date of the erection of this Castle, but it is supposed to be Coeval with "Threave Castle". _
