Moat--(moat)--This object is on the farm of the Ha' and is situated on high ground and planted with mixed wood, it is not raised or elevated in the formation of itself the centre is level with the general surface of the ground it had been surrounded by a great stone rampart some of which stand three feet high at present (but perhaps it has been repaired) Altho' [Although] this object was pointed out to me by James Kilpatrick as a moat and is so called by the inhabitants, yet I do not think from its appearance that it is a moat, as moats are generally raised in their formation, but the inhabitants do not know what name to give such objects whither Camp, Moat or Fort. My Opinion is that it was a Fort surrounded by a thick rampart of stones placed on very advantageous ground.--[Rerrick]-James Kirkpatrick
