050 | The site of Galtway Village which Mr Brown Mr Watson and several respectable persons have pointed out nothing now remains to indicate that it once existed save a few traces of Fences and ruins of houses - but it appears that the house were numerous here at one time although at present the foundation of two Can only be properly traced - Mr Nicholson and several other persons states that there is a tradition in the Country that this Village was depopulated (as well as Dunrod) by McClelland (then Lord Kirkcudbright) who raised an Army from amongst his vassels and proceed to Ireland to assist King William at the Battle of the Boyne, from which few returned consequently the Villages went to ruin soon after. |
