Sinclair in his Stat Acct [Statistical Account] states King James 4th gave a grant of the Castle and ? pertaining to it to the Burgh of Kirkcudbright and that he was here himself, and was hospitably entertained by the Burgh - Mr Nicholson says that after the Castle went to ruins that stones were brought from it to build the present one |
