050 A large River having its source in Loch Dee from which it derives its name and runs in a South Easterly direction through the middle of Kirkcudbrightshire, and discharges itself into Kirkcudbright Bay about 4 1/2 miles below the Royal Burgh of Kirkcudbright. In its course it receives numerous tributary steam from the flats and hill through which it passes the greatest of these streams is Cooran Lane the Water of Ken and Tarf Water, It runs through five small Lock the most considerable of which is Loch Stroan and Ken, Its cours is rapid chiefly over a Rocky bottom and beneath steep and rugged banks chiefly covered with copse wood and Plantations the River about with small waterfalls the largest one is opposite to Tongueland Church, it tumbles (Turn Over)
