047 | [Situation] At the S.E. [South East] corner of the Parish of KirKbean. A Lighthouse on the Southerness Pt [Point] it was erected in 1842 by the [Commissioners] of the navigation of the Nith. It is about 65 feet in height and about 20 feet Square at base, but decreases 1 foot in 10 to the top of the tower. The lamp is of a circular shape about 10 feet in diameter and contains 6 burners , all of which are white light. Prior to this light house a Small tower or pinnacle stood here which had one light, and was used as a temporary lighthouse or Landmark for Mariners |
