A considerable hill on the lands of Castramont, it is all thickly planted with wood with wood consisting chiefly of Oak and Birch, its summit commanding an extensive view of the surrounding Country, and is both traditionally and historically handed down as being a place of great strength, but no trace of any fortifications can be seen or traced on it, See Nicholson's History of Galloway Vol. 1 P. 62.
