004.06 There are two bridges across the River Dee in this parish (Nigg), viz: the Old Bridge of Dee of seven arches built by Bishop Dunbar three hundred years ago, and a suspension bridge about a mile below nearer Aberdeen called Wellington Bridge. (Extract from New Statistical Account)

004.02 A fine river rising in the mountains of Braemar and falling into the sea at the Bay of Aberdeen; its course through this parish forms the boundary between Kincardine and Aberdeenshire. This river is too shallow for *navigation; but it is very valuable on account of the Salmon Fisheries.
River Dee 004.03 Note * This River is navigable from the Bar to the mouth of the Harbour only, that is for a distance of 1/2 a mile.
