021.07 "The old Cemetery of Catterline is still used as a burial place, and the rude cemtery of the Kirk, and fragment of a coffin slab the latter of which bears an incised cross and sword, are built into the walls of the enclosure. The Kirk of Caterline, or Caterine was given by King William the Lion to the Abbey of Arbroath, and confirmed to it by Turpin Bishop of Brechin between 1178 and 1198." (Memol. The foundations of the Old Church of the Parish of Catterline are all removed, but the site is well known. The grave yard is well known through the whole district and is still used as a burying place [Signed] B. Render Corp R.E. 19/1/64 [Corporal Royal Engineers. 19 January 1864]
