016.15 " The ruins and site of the old Church which belonged to the diocese of Brechin the name of the Patron Saint is lost. The first recorded parson is described as " Henricus. persona de Glenberuin" in a grant of the lands of Bractullo, in Kirkden, by Randulph (1296) of Strathechyn, to the Cathedral of Brechin, about the year 1222, but, from the time of Stowe, until nearly the middle of the fifteenth Century, there are few notices of much moment. either of the Kirk or Vicars, Some of the Vicars, as then frequently happened, were nearly related to the chief heritor or patron This become an Episcopal Church when Episcopacy was first introduced into this country and A Chapel situated at Drumlithie was dependent upon the Kirk of Glenbervie the patronage of both of which livings went along with the Estates, but when the Jacobites were annihilated in this quarter and the Chapel at Drumlithie burned down (1746) this was converted into the Established Parish Church and remained as such till 1826 when a new Church was erected, and this one speedly fell into decay. ___ " Here also is the burial place of the Stuarts of Inchbreck, where a brass plate affixed to a part of the ruins of the Old Kirk commemorates the names of the various lairds from the year 1550." __ (Mems. [Memorials] of Angus & Mearns P. [Page] 95) All that remains of the Old Church is part of a Tower, or Pillar, which has apparently formed the South west corner. There is a Metal Tablet on this pillar with a Latin inscription to the memory of the Stuarts of Inchbreck. __ [Initialled] B.R.
