016.15 A good modern mansion with offices, gardens and ornamental ground etc. attached. "The Old Castle of Glenbervy, is believed to have occupied nearly the Same Site on the banks of the Bervy Water, as the present neat mansion house, and, at the time of the King's visit (Edward 1. 1296) it belonged to a branch of the old family of Melville, Many barons of that name did homage to Edward, and among these was the Laird of Glenbervy." _ (see Memorials of Angus & Mearns p. [page] 91) The underground Cellars of the present Mansion are the remaining parts of the old Castle, the walls are upwards of 6 feet thick, and the Cellars and kitchen are all vaulted. The present house has undergone several repairs and alterations at different periods, but, the greatest alterations were made in 1720, when a great portion of it was rebuilt, the two fine circular towers now standing appear to have been rebuilt in the same style and dimensions, as the former ones, Several improvements in the gardens and grounds adjoining are now going on which will add much to the beauty of the place which formerly has been rather neglected, It is now the property and residence of Mrs. Badenach Nicolson. __ This is always spoken of as Glenbervie House [Initialled] B.R.
